The Secret Sounds of Stonehenge
Sep 9th
The wonders of modern technology! Two brilliant researchers from the University of Huddersfield, UK, Bruno Fazenda and Rupert Hill, have recently developed a method of measuring a site’s acoustic fingerprint. What they do exactly is they “measure the impulse response of a location”, hoping that they can determine how it may have sounded thousand of years ago. Also, it seems that such actions can also help archeologists determine if placement was deliberate or not. Amazing!

China shard
Sep 7th
A few weeks ago I visited my parents house, as they were picking cucumbers and radishes from their garden. I was looking at the hugely tall sunflowers when I saw something shiney in the soil. I reached down and picked up this:
It’s a small shard of china. The symbol really intrigued me, so I decided to Google “coat of arms” and see what I came up with. It turns out that it is a portion of a British coat of arms with a unicorn and the word “droit”. Here is a look at the whole coat of arms:
I am a little kid when it comes to this kind of stuff. I mean, I get such a kick out of finding unexpected treasures. It reminded me of the fun I used to have going to the ocean and spending hours sifting through sand and stones to find sea glass.
I think there is a significance for me finding the shard, but I am not sure what the specific message is supposed to be. The unicorn has always been a significant symbol in my life. As a young girl I was obsessed with unicorns, but as I got older I became fascinated with large cats like lions and black panthers. I need to really think about this for a while, but no matter what I think that this shard of china is the coolest thing I have come across in a long time. I love my little treat!

After reading about the recent discovery made by a team of archeologists from the University of Ioannina, I couldn’t help remember how much I enjoyed reading the Odyssey and the Iliad! I was so drawn in by the classical mythology as a child! But who wasn’t? Thanks to beautiful childhood memories, this news is even more exciting for me.

Religion a safe haven in jail, prison
Howie Close loved to fight, and in 1990 at the age of 17, he and his brother, in an unprovoked attack, used clubs and their fists to brutally beat six men in Denver. “I was just a mean, wicked person,” said Close, who has served 20 years within…

Freyja: Goddess of Fertility and Abundance
Aug 31st
Venerated by both women and men, Freyja was the Scandinavian goddess of fertility and abundance. She was one of the Norse deities of earth and water and sister of Freyr the god of farming, weather and also a phallic fertility god. People were reaching out to goddess Freyja for assistance in child birth, help with fertility problems, and help with marital problems or to provide them with abundance upon the land and sea. In some cultures, Freyja is god’s Frey wife and just like him she is associated with material abundance and wealth.
