Seems to me that wicca is for those who have given up or never experienced western/abrahamic religion and are versed in high school or university non-majoring science and not averse to its implications, but who do not want to give up belief, for some cachet, in the mystical, perhaps due to a need to be closer to the ‘truth’ than others. It’s an “I’m special, spiritual, magic touched” magnet religion.

I’m a Genetics/Botany major and am closely tied to Wicca. I have science seeping out of my pores and yet I’m still a Pagan. Having heavy knowledge of superior science means nothing but having a better idea on how the “physical” realm might or might not operate. Wicca is not about being more special, more spiritual, or more magically touched than other people. The religion is about Nature worship.

Also, if someone has either given up or never experienced Western religion, they could also be Atheist or Agnostic, not just Wiccan. Do some research on Wicca or drop me a line if you would like to know the types of people and the reasons why they became Wiccans.

Actually, a plurality of Wiccans are computer programmers ( of course, all us programmers have God-complexes, so maybe that’s why ).
Wicca, as I understand it, does not particularly pride itself on having ” the Truth .”
I think you should look at the details of the religion that most attract people. The Goddess, honoring of sexuality, honoring of nature, and self empowerment and exploration through magic. These provide, I think, a catharsis for the impulses that Christianity represses.
