This is a great book, but it’s a RE-ISSUE by a different publisher. I ordered two of them before I figured this out. If you already own The Real Witches’ Craft: Magical Techniques and Guidance for a Full Year of Practicing the Craft (1995, Harper Element) do not expect a new Llewellen publication.
That said, this is a good book. All Kate West books have fit well into my life, not as a Wiccan but as a Witch. I also recommend books by Ann Moura.

This book is absolutely brilliant. It covers everthing, from the most basic aspects of the Craft such as casting circle and invoking the elements, to more advanced areas of witchcraft such as working on the astral plane. Each chapter works as an exercise book, where the first page or two describe the ‘lesson’, followed by half a dozen and more exercises for you to develope each ability. Everything is written in a chronological order. Each successive chapter is more advanced than the last, as are the exercises within each chapter, so that if you start your journey at the beginning of the book and work your way through, you will develope the basic skills needed later on to tackle the more advanced and challenging aspects of the Craft. All in all a fantastic guide book, a very valuable tool that no witch can afford to be without.

Kate West is a great author and fairly well known here in the UK. She has authored a whole lot of books which start with “Real Witches” and so grabbed an entire generation of wannabee real witches! Excellent marketing!
I thought her first book The Real Witches Handbook was a fairly well written and thoughtout book for beginners seeking to look into the practices of Wicca / Witchcraft with a pagan slant. This book claims to contain advanced magical techniques, but it is fairly basic standard practices and exercises which are being put forward. Most of which are redundant if you start out practicing magic and ritual with a group or good teacher. If you dont have a teacher there are probably better books to use for advanced technqiue ideas. After all if you are advanced you would want to be looking at source material not a book structured and written in a beginner format.
For me that was a let down, but I would recommend this book to newbies who are just looking for some basic ideas and concepts. Ms West would do better if she credited her readers with intelligence to think for themselves.
